In a reform initiative aimed at addressing the accumulated burdens of the Assad regime, including the deterioration in the quality of medical services and the imbalance in the structure of insurance systems, the Syrian Insurance Supervisory Authority announced the launch of a comprehensive plan to restructure the sector. This plan focuses on improving the quality of health services and ensuring their operational efficiency.
The Authority emphasized that the new measures aim to close existing gaps and enhance transparency by implementing precise mechanisms that ensure sustainability and effective oversight, thus contributing to restoring citizens’ confidence in the health system.
These measures include several points, including updating the data of insured persons, especially those working for the government, to ensure the accuracy of information, and linking insurance systems electronically with management companies to enhance coordination and expedite procedures.
In addition, they include auditing insurance company expenses to reduce financial waste and achieve financial discipline, activating frozen accounts to restore operational dynamism in the sector, and requiring the updating of medical supplier licenses to ensure the quality of services and supplies provided.
The measures included requiring suppliers to receive clearance certificates after fully disbursing financial dues, and evaluating management companies according to approved performance indicators to ensure transparency and professionalism.
These steps are part of the Ministry of Finance’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of the insurance sector in the country and restore balance between service providers and recipients, putting the interests of citizens first.
