The Damascus Goldsmiths Syndicate, under the direction of the General Security, issued a decision yesterday, Tuesday, requiring all owners of gold and silver shops to install internal and external surveillance cameras, as part of precautionary measures aimed at controlling the market and reducing violations.
The decision came in an official statement from the Syndicate on its social media page, stressing that installing cameras has become a prerequisite for continuing operations.
The decision stressed that any shop that does not comply with the decision will be subject to legal accountability and may face a one-week closure penalty.
On the other hand, gold prices in the local market witnessed a decrease of 30,000 Syrian pounds compared to the previous bulletin of the Goldsmiths Syndicate. In Damascus.
The selling price of a gram of 21-karat gold reached 1,060,000 Syrian pounds ($93.50), and the buying price reached 1,050,000 Syrian pounds ($92.50).
While the selling price of a gram of 18-karat gold reached 908,000 Syrian pounds ($80.15), and the buying price reached 898,000 Syrian pounds ($79.15).
It is noteworthy that the Damascus Goldsmiths Association warned in a previous statement against purchasing any gold piece not registered in the official purchase books, stressing the need for shop owners to adhere to accurate documentation of every piece purchased or sold.
The association also called for a complete abstention from trading or Acquiring Byzantine and archaeological liras, given the legal consequences that may result in violators being held accountable.
