The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Egypt issued a joint statement on Sunday following the meeting of the Follow-up and Political Consultation Committee and the meeting between Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The joint statement condemned Israeli violations in Syrian territory, affirming the preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The statement explained that the two ministers’ discussions addressed the situation in Syria, with “both sides affirming the importance of a comprehensive political process and combating terrorism in all its forms,” emphasizing their rejection of foreign interference in Syrian affairs.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s position on Syria represents an important development in relations between the two countries, especially after years of estrangement following the Syrian crisis.
Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role has emerged since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in supporting efforts to restore stability, both by providing humanitarian aid and contributing to reconstruction efforts.
As for the Egyptian side, it has previously affirmed its full support for the Syrian people, its support for their legitimate aspirations, and its commitment to making every effort to ensure the success of the comprehensive political process that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people and blocks any attempt to undermine Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
